OpenGL extensions not found

When I run the Quake3 demo for linux it's really choppy. Now, I ran the demo from the virtual shell and when I exited it I got to read all the init data from when the program starts. Amongst this I found:

...GL_S3_s3tc not found
...GL_EXT_texture_env_add not found
...using GL_ARB_multitexture
...GL_EXT_compiled_vertex_array not found

And I was wondering if this might have something to do with my hurtin framerate. Here are some of my system specs as well:

3D Rage II video card
Red Hat 7.2
256Mb SDRAM
P4 1.7 Gb

Any ideas guys?

Do you run accelerated driver? Do other OpenGL programs run?
