No Sound on SL9.1

I tried seaching google but my question is just too general I think.... I don't know where to start!

I clicked and mp3 and I got no sound. I opened up KDE Control center and clicked "test" under the sound category and... no sound.

Where can I start?

what card do you have? is it supported? post your hardware specs, and any steps taken to correct the problem.

from a google it looks like this is your sound card VT82C686B and it uses this driver via82cxxx_audio module found that info here

http://www.linuxathome.com/b2comment....php?p=112&c=1

looks like it's supported so try alsaconf from a terminal as root

it should ask you which card to configure choose your card and follow the steps. once that's done run alsamixer again from the terminal as root, unmute your volumes, set your default levels, then exit.

last alsactl store again as root from a terminal.

if the above doesn't work, read up here

http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...e=via82xx#Inst

good luck.
