No sound, No Mouse on MDK 9.2

I running MDK 9.2 on my laptop. I don't have any sound nor can i use my USB mouse. My sund is an intagrated Avance AC97 and my mouse is an IBM optical navigator. Can someone please help. I'm totally new to Linux. :|

Dont know about the mouse. How is it set up in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file? You could try running xf86config and when it asks about the mouse be sure to select a USB mouse.

For sound run alsamixer or any other mixer and check to make sure the sound is not muted and that the volume is turned up. alsaconf will do this for you. Save settings using: alsactl store

The alsaconfig worked and i have sound now but I still can't get my mouse to work. I'm doing some research on it. I would like some help though. Its a IBM optical navigator mouse model #19K2002. I hate using the touch pad.
