theres already many threads like this you shouldve searched first.. and its not a matter of which is better its a matter of personal peference.

hm i tried both and i think the only difference is the optical appearence and how s.ths. are displayed, but I prefer GNOME because I think it looks quite a bit better

Its really about personal prefernce, I'd suggest trying both to see which you like - on average KDE tends to be easier to use for newer Linux users - the KDE Control Centre is excellent and its quite slick all round - KDE and GNOME come with many Linux distributions so you shouldnt have a problem trying both.

I personally like KDE. Not even so much because it's better per se, but because I adore the Crystal theming, and because there seems to be a bit more active development of it over Gnome. (I could be wrong there, so please don't flame)

The Control Center <i>is</i> really slick as well. Nice way to help make the win/lin transition.
