Mandrake 10 recognises my usb scanner as mustek & both xsane & kooka seem to connect to it OK. The scanner responds, though slower than under win. The problem is that all scans are solid black with both apps. I tried different resolutions & colors, but all have the same result. Thanks!
Hi rm6990: Sorry forgot the scanner type. It's marketed here as prolink, it's id'd as a Mustek bearpaw. Not really sure where that comes from. Harddrake recognises it & it seems to respond to both kooka & xsne, but both with the same results. BLack. Maybe there's a software settiing I'm missing soemwhere? I browsed other scanner related threads, but couldn't find a match for my prob. Hope you have an idea. Tx for the response.
btw, what's afero?

Hey,
I'm not sure what afero means....where did u see it? Anyways, I am absolutly clueless....This will not fix your problem but it may let you know if it is a problem with Mandrake. Download something like Suse's live CD or Knoppix (not MandrakeMove). Try loading the scanner in there and seeing if it works. The reason I suggest this is my little brothers computer has a C-Media sound card that would not work with any kernel 2.6 distro but Fedora. Maybe it is a distro related problem....but I'm jus guessing here....maybe try some Mandrake forums on Mandrakeclub, u don't need to be a member to use all of the forums. I'm sorry I couldn't be of anymore help. Anyways, hopefully you find a solution.
OK, thanks for the effort. I've heard knoppix mentioned alot, but what exactly is it?
Affero is one of the options at the bottom of this window.
thanks again--cu

Knoppix is just a live Linux CD, but it boots up extremely fast compared to most others and it has a lot more software (in my opinion)....but, the only other live cds I've used are MandrakeMove and SuSE Live Evaluation, so there might be something better. But ya, Knoppix should do the trick...you can even install it to ur harddrive if u really like it.
Thanks for the recom of knoppix. I checked out it's website, & sounds cool. But i have a dialup conn so the d/l would be too long. Maybe I'll check it out if I see it in the shops. I've been digging around it all the scanner related files I can find, & will keep at it. Thanks for the ideas. CU
