I am running slackware 12.0, and just copied all my *mp3 files from my window's partition to linux. I can play mp3 files using mpg123, however, I can't listen to them in Amarok?
I have one solution to this, which isn't the preferred method. I could use the ncurses library to make an interference to browse the music files, and then use the system() command to play them.

Hmm, the package I have in opensuse 10.2 is amarok-xine-1.4.6-12. I think this is needed in addition to the other packages to get MP3 support in amarok, but this situation might only apply in opensuse. Beyond that I have no other ideas.
My slackware install was working pretty much out of the box with amarok, though I don't remember if there was a package like amarok-xine or not. If you did a full install you might have multiple engines for amarok, if so maybe take a look to see if any work better. You can change this under Settings>Configure Amarok>Engine. The xine engine has worked well for me.
Heh...that was a stupid problem. The permissions where set to root, because I copied them over from my windows partition while logged into root, and not my user. So I changed them, and it works perfectly.
