MP3 codec that works for Amarok or Rhythmbox?

Lame doesn't install, it gives me error after the make install. And doesn't install though packages either, well, it said it did, but the mp3s still don't play.

what kind of error?
You need to be root in order to make "make install" work correct.

OK I fixed the error and it installed. but still no mp3s.

Did you try updating your amarok and/or lame with those available on Guru's web site?

Typically the multimedia that comes with Novell/SuSE is crippled for sound and video.
