Amarok: MP3 only works when run as root
Update:
Well now it works for no reason I can think of. I didn't change anything, didn't reboot, etc. Only thing I did was run it as root once and now it works as regular user, too. I hate problems like that. Comments still welcome as to why it may have initially been broken and then not.
Original Post follows:
I've just upgraded to 11.0 and am giving Amarok a try for the first time.
The trouble is mp3 playback doesn't work unless I run Amarok as root.
xine plays the same mp3 files no problem when run directly as regular user and Amarok plays its sample file (ogg) no problem when run as regular user.
It seems like a permissions thing, but I can't figure out what permissions would be screwed up that would allow xine to work with mp3's as regular user and Amarok to work with non-mp3 as regular user.
Anyone have ideas? Am I the only Slackware user to have this problem?
Thanks,
Dave
