Mounting DVD-RW problems.

I am using Fedora Core 3.

The DVD-RW drive on my laptop seems to mount correctly when a data disc is inserted, but whenever i try to insert an audio cd it wont mount.

It says :

/dev/hdc: Input/Output error
mount: /dev/hdc: cant' read superblock

What does this all mean?

You can't mount an audio cd because it doesn't have a valid filesystem. You need to start a cd player application like kscd or gnome cd player to play the audio CD.

Thats quite common, a lot of people forget to give themselves read permission for their optical devices.

Hmm, everytime i restart I have to re do the chmod 666 /dev/hdc command to get permissions set.

Is there any way to keep it set?

Try putting yourself in the audio or cdrom group. I wonder why your permissions are reset thought. Strange.

Is it because my fstab keeps on getting updated? I read fstab on FC3 and it says something about auto sycing in the fstab-sync section. Does that sync need to be disabled?

Also, sometimes my sound works and sometimes it doesnt.. lol .. its weird. When it works I can hear system error bells but even then I cant llisten to KsCD output.
