Problems mounting SCSI DVD-RW

I am having some problems mounting my DVD-RW under linux and was hoping someone might be able to help.

The drive is being detected, but not being assigned a dev name...like /dev/hda..etc. When I do an lsscsi to see the scsi devices it shows the hard drives as /dev/hda and /dev/hdb, but next to the dvd, it just says "-".

I looked through dmesg and it shows the drive being detected, but then assigns it the name sg2. When I try to mount sg2, it says not a valid block device, even when there is a disc in the drive. I have no sr* or scd* devices under /dev.

I am running kernel 2.6.7.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,
Grant
