mounting a daisy chained firewire drive

I have 2 external USB2/firewire drives. Each drive has 2 firewire connections on it, I assume for daisy chaining. My computer has only one firewire connection on it.

When I mount either drive individually they both respond fine to
# mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbhd

What I want to do is to daisy chain these 2 drives together and mount them both. I plugged one in, mounted it as normal, daisy chained the 2nd one then tried:
# mount /dev/sda2 /mnt/usbhd2
and
# mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usbhd2

and neither worked, error was sda2 or sdb1 "was not a block blah-blah device" (sorry, I'm away from that machine right now and can't recall the exact error).

Ideas?

Thanks

Mike

Try this:
Plug the 1st drive and and mount it as usual. i.e.
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbhd

Plug the 2nd drive and look at the output of dmesg. Does it look like the 2nd drive is being recognized? Does it show up as sdb? If so then try to mount it:

mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usbhd2
