Modem problem(Slack 9.1) ....

i have upgraded my system from 9.0 to 9.1 and having a bit of trouble configuring the modem.The thing is , it seems that i have all the drivers loaded but the modem doesn't work(says modem doesn't respond).Could someone walk me through the modem testing using minicom (you may include screenshots) ?The following are things that i currently have :

modprobe lt_modem

Gives :

Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.22/ltmodem/lt_modem.o will taint the kernel: non-GPL license - UNKNOWN
See http://www.tux.org/lkml/#export-tainted for information about tainted modules
Module lt_modem loaded, with warnings

lsmod

Gives :

also i have the following :

ls -l /dev/mo*

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Sep 11 16:02 /dev/modem -> ttyS1
crw-r--r-- 1 root root 10, 129 May 25 1996 /dev/modreq
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5 Sep 11 06:34 /dev/mouse -> psaux

and i have this form BLDRecord.txt:

-rw-r--r-- 1 aboo users 549028 Sep 11 11:31 lt_modem.o
-rw-r--r-- 1 aboo users 27315 Sep 11 11:31 lt_serial.o
DEPMOD=/sbin/depmod
EXTRAMOD=
succeeded: /sbin/depmod -e lt_modem.o
succeeded: /sbin/depmod -e lt_modem.o lt_serial.o

#===== ltinst2 section =====

LT_MODEM=/lib/modules/2.4.22/ltmodem/lt_modem.o
LT_SERIAL=/lib/modules/2.4.22/ltmodem/lt_serial.o

DEPMOD_LT_NEW=passed

The drivers can be removed from the modules search PATH with: ./ltuninst2
#=========== autoload section ====================
ENVIR=autoload
INSTALLER=./autoload
TMPM=/tmp/ltmodem/tmpfile

LT_VERSION=8.30a3

GCCcompiler=3.2.3
SCAN=utils/scanmodem
DOCS=/home/aboo/ltmodem-8.30a3
GCC_PC=3.2.3)
GCCmajor=3

DEVFS=
This will conflict with support for the Lucent modem. Please
rm -f /dev/modem
and assign another symbolic link to ttyS1, such as:
ln -s ttyS1 /dev/modem2"
Then rerun: ./autoload
Aborting on this trial.

should i try to create a second link as it says ?

Is this a new modem or was it working with the previous Slack version ?

Is it internal PCI or external (USB or Serial) ?
