It's permanent. It's so permanent it will continue to exist even if /icon_archive is deleted

If icondir does not exist anywhere then obviously bind is not going to work.

If running a desktop you can create a shortcut in the file browser or on the desktop. Otherwise I don't know of any command line way that does not create a directory even a link.
