I have just installed, mandrake linux and was planning on having it as a webserver. I can now see that mandrake want you to pay for the pleasures uf patching, sounds a bit like microsoft to me! anyway, is there a way of patching the system any other way??? I'm using mandrake 10.0 community (free) download edition. Any ideas. If it can't be patched for free does fedora or any other newbie distro's?
Fedora does have free updates, but you can almost get a power pack MDK for free if i remember correctly. Add the pubic servers to you database and u can d/l all the stuff thats on the power pack apart from the proprietary s/w, I.e. Nvidia drivers etc.
I like fedora tho.
You don't have to pay to upgrade your Mandrake system. All you have to do is use the upgrade facility in Mandrakes package manager or configure urpmi update sources. Whats made you think that Mandrake would provide you with a free download and leave you with an unpatched system?
click on red icon in taskbar, this says welcome to mandrake online, i create an account and go through the dialog. at the end, madrake updates applet kicks in, but shows new updates are not available, i then check the log and it says online services disabled, contact mandrake online site. this is as far as i get. is it possible to do this through urpmi? where do i get to this from?
