loading/finding newsgroups in Pan newsreader

I have Mandriva 10 installed on 2 computers. On one I have just installed Pan 0.133 newsreader successfully and am able to scroll through newsgroups and download.

On the other I cannot figure how to find newsgroups. I tried uninstalling and re-installing to see if I would get a chance during install but no. I can't remember how I got them on the 'successful' machine.

Any help please?

I would have thought adding a news server would be the first task. Then you use the news group menu to find groups.

Are you a goldfish ?

I have added my news server and so far as I know I am not a goldfish.

Do you use Pan, and do you know what you are talking about?

I'm not the one who can't remember something they only just did.
I also don't post asking for help on something so basic that I figured it out once but can't be bothered to do again.
I used to use pan, about 6 years ago. It's not rocket science. And if you actually followed the links I kindly found for you you might learn something.

All the likely headings in the Group Menu are greyed out. Everything I might want is greyed out.

Sorry - the computer where I originally tried to use Pan and am trying again now was a couple months ago.

I agree it must not be rocket science because I did it on the second box a week ago and it did not make any impression on me so must have been straight forward.

Must be why it is so frustrating now.

Thank you for the links but have already spent considerable time there. I wish they would get the manual done!

I posted this in the 'newbie' forum because it seemed like it must be 'newbie' but I have been around long enough to do some research before asking for help.

This has been doing my head in for 4 days.

XXX Just thought is everything greyed out because I need to be admin? I think I am but maybe...

No - just logged in as su and configured Pan (including news server!) but everything (but mainly 'subscribe') is still greyed out.

Yesterday I put Pan on a 3rd computer with no problem - must be a problem with my mandriva install or with the computer. It is almost time for the Spring edition of Mandriva - I will do a clean install on that machine and see. Thanks to all who have taken the time to look and to smoker who tried to help.
