Newsreader Pan

I'm trying out Pan to get some files down from a newsserver. In the setting you can set the amount of simultanous connections it should use. I have set this to 8 witch is supported by my newsserver.
Problem is that Pan is only downloading one file at a time, and that with a rather slow speed. Have I missed something here??

Pan uses all 8 connections to connect to your news server and download posts. If you're downloading files that have been rar'd and yenc'd and split across many posts, pan is actually downloading a single post with each connection, then decoding and combining the posts back into binary files once it's done. If the speed is too slow, it means your connection to the news server is slow.

Thanks for the reply!
I have been using Newsbin 4.06 which works under wine. Newsbin downloads up to 8 files simultanously and it has generaly given me a total of about 400 KB/s. With Pan I only get about 50 KB/s. This puzzles me.
Does Pan tell me the speed of each one of its 8 channels or is this the total?
I havenīt really measured the speed, but it feels like its much slower.
