Hi Gurus,

I have Hp pavilion laptop with vista (160gb).
I partinioned the same and now i wanna install redhat.
when i tried am getting a error
"No hard drivers have been found.You probabaly need to manually choose the device for installation to succeed.
& also No device drivers have been loaded for your system"

1)How shud i proceed.?
I don wanna other version of linux to get installed.(if no other go, obviously i have too)
2)
where do i get the drivers for linux on HP machines. I cudn find it on Hp website.
Plz guide me.

Am using a SATA hard disk.

Hi,
Take a look in your BIOS settings* for your SATA options. There will be an option to set the drive to 'legacy' mode or some other similar name. This will let the installer see the drive.
You might be able to change the setting back once the installer is done, though you'll most likely have to leave it at this setting.

*On HP desktops, it's usually del or F10 to get into the BIOS.

What version of Red Hat are you trying to install? If it is straight Red Hat, and not RHEL(Red Hat Enterprise Linux), it is far too old. RHEL 5.2 is current and has much better hardware support than even RHEL5.0.

I would check the specs again. Laptops just do not have scsci hard drives. Every Hp pavilion laptop model I checked comes with a sata drive.

Sata is newer than RHEL4(which includes AS 4). It does not have the drivers needed on the install disk. The easiest way out would be to use 5.2. Centos is RHEL with the logos removed. It is made from RHEL source code. It is fully binary compatible and it is free to download/update.
