I'm not sure if the segfault from the information you provided would be enough to cause the system to reboot suddenly and without warning. What is the brand and model (and model number)of this system and is it a desktop or a laptop?
This problem may be hardware in nature. Two things to check out would be the memory (by burning a copy of
Memtest86+,) and the
motherboard's capacitors. Inspecting these will require you to open the case of your desktop system. If your system is under warranty or you feel uncomfortable performing this inspection, take it to an authorized repair shop.
Start there and let us know what you find out.
