Lilo error just printing LI and stops

Hi.

I've just installed Debian Woody, and made a apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade. Then when ever i boot, it just ends up printing LI on the screen and stops. Then I have to use my rescue CD, to get into Debian.

I've google around for an answer, but with no luck. Anyone knows of a solution to this problem.

Im running with the 2.2.20-compact kernel, wich i later on would like to upgrade to 2.4.25 kernel, but i guess its best to have the most problems ruled out before messing around kernel compiling.

The first thing I'd try after having booted debilian
via CD is to run lilo on the up & running machine?

Cheers,
Tink

I remember a similar problem.

Try messing arround with the LILO configuration files. If it doesn't work... Well.. Just do it the windows way - format.

I hope you don't have any data you would need later. If there is - back it up.

LILO may be configured to use a partition that isn't set as bootable. (cfdisk) I don't know why apt-get would have done this but the LI just hanging is a common LILO install problem-
