laptop mouse not working outside GUI in Fedora 13

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 recently converted to run Fedora 13.

Everything seems fine except the touchpad mouse doesn't work outside the X-Window. When I boot to full multi-user mode, the mouse doesn't work at all. I think this is responsible for the typical UNIX copy & paste by selecting and right clicking not to work within GUI.

Here's the output of
# xinput list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad id=11 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Macintosh mouse button emulation id=12 [slave pointer (2)]

Can anyone please advise me what I need to do to make the mouse functional?

thanks for any insight, and Merry Christmas.

Have you tried it with a USB mouse? That might help determine if it's an X11 problem or a Device/driver problem...

You mean mouse works inside X but not when go to black screen, with say ctrl+alt+F1?

Just install gpm, general purpose mouse.

Don't know much about Redhat type stuff. IF my above post is correct the package will probably just be called "gpm". Otherwise: http://packages.sw.be/gpm/ ??

here's the output

rpm -aq | grep pgm
gpgme-1.1.8-4.fc13.i686
pygpgme-0.1-18.20090824bzr68.fc13.i686

So I already have the right driver?

thanks & Happy New Year!
