Knoppix 3.6 freezes on boot (dhcp)

I have an Acer Travelmate portable 4001WLMi and I was going to try knoppix on it to see if I could install an other distribution on it (now I'm using winXP because all programs I use in school only run in windows).

Knoppix sais it detects a NIC (wich is correct, I have a LAN, WLAN and IEEE port) but when it wants to get an IP address with dhcp it just stays on that line forever.

shouldn't knoppix stop trying after a while and get on with booting? How do I stop knoppix from trying ?

Thanks
