fedora core 2 (FC2) freezes while running. Cannot boot into KDE it freezes

I have VIA KT400 motherboard with AMD Athlon 2100+ chip.
I did a upgrade of Fedora Core 1 to Fedora Core 2.
My default GUI is KDE it freezes as soon as it shows splash screen of KDE (at about 48% when it displays initializing peripherals)
I can get into GNOME but it freezes after sometime. Only to be fixed by a hard boot.

the solution was to have:
noacpi noapic nolacpi
as kernel parameters.

I made changes to /boot/grub/menu.lst to pass these params and it started working fine.

Hope this helps anybody having the same problem after upgrading to FC2 or even doing a fresh install with similar problem.
