Smile keyboard issues after debian install 5.1

After installing Debian 5.1 alongside XP, on login the keyboard layout is US. After login it reverts to UK. Good thing I know the US layout as far as passwords are concerned. Any help appreciated.

You should be able to go to the System -> Preferences -> Keyboard(or such don't know look for a keyboard config), then save to a different keyboard setting, it should let you do that.
