kernel line grub menu

I am trying to add a command to the kernel line at the grub menu.

The options I have at the menu are...

recordfail
insmod ext2
setroot='(hd0,1)
search __no_floppy __fs_uuid __set (lots of numbers etc)
cae
linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic root (lots of numbers) quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-21-generic

is any of this anything to do with the kernel line?

please help

thanks bria

For linux mint you can edit /etc/default/grub , look for the line that matches:

Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
Add your options, for example:
Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash vga=792"
Then simply run:
Code:
sudo update-grub
And reboot.

-------

P.S.

The line
Code:
linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic root (lots of numbers) quiet splash
...you can add options to the end of that (it is the kernel line), however when your kernel is updated by the package manager you will lose the settings if they are placed in here, if you want it to be persistant then edit the /etc/grub/default file.

Thank you coralfang I was tempted to add to quiet splash but I thought I should get some advice first.

You're welcome.

You may also find this this page useful when modifying /etc/default/grub
