KDE extremely slow?

I have an very old computer - Pentium 120, 48MB RAM, and a 64MB Share Partition. I have installed Red Hat 7.1, and KDE runs very slowly (much, much more slowly than windows 98). Is there any way to optimize KDE to my computer? Or is there a different desktop or window manager I can get that would be faster (with the same functionality)? Thanks for the help.

KDE running slow

My Pentium II 233 runs a little slow in KDE as well, especially when booting a big program like WordPerfect. I find the Gnome desktop is a little snappier, but doesn't have the nice features that KDE has. I especially like the Kppp program. Maybe if you change your video to a lower resolution it might speed things up. I know when I finally got my video running optimally, it did help.
