Java Web Start, a separate download?

Should I be downloading Java Web Start after downlading and installing J2RE? I looked into the javaws file and found a link ( http://java.sun.com/products/javaweb...download.html?) for the download. However, shouldn't the Java Web Start automatically work when the JRE was installed?

Hi,

depending on what version of Java you downloaded, you may or may not find javaws in your installation directory. As far as I was aware, version 1.4.1 onwards came with javaws included (although you have to make some manual changes to your browser to enable it - check the sun website), but you had to download java web start for anything before 1.4.1. Check your java version with:

Code:
java -version
I'd assume that you downloaded the latest JRE? You could try searching for the file javaws (which should be in the javaws folder). But then again, you just said it wasn't there...
