about mozilla:
Mozilla 1.4
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20031027
just wondering what i can do, ive done searches left and right but i cant find info to benifit me...
this is my first day of truely using this linux OS, and any linux os for that matter
at least i got my mp3 player working along with aim, not too bad right?
ok i went to the site, downloaded the file, installed it, or so i think...
at step #7: Run the RPM command at the terminal to install the packages. Type:
rpm -iv j2re-1_4_2_04-linux-i586.rpm
it just kinda hangs at a flashing cursor...i cant break out or rest it...it just flashes...i dont know what to do...
i tried a tone of different things...and i thought i had it...but java still doesnt work, i followed some of the steps below that and i got the same output... but i know something isnt right and its related to this step.
rpm's don't work very well. The self extracing binary always works, so go here and get the self extracting binary. Change tha permissions on it so you can execute it
chmod 755 /path/to/j2re-*
Then cd into the folder where you want to install it. That's up to you. If you want to install it system side you'll need to become root so I find it's easiest to just install it in my home folder.
cd /some/folder/or/other
/path/to/j2re-*
Agree to the terms and that bit is done. Now, to install the plugin,
install -d ~/.mozilla/plugins
cd ~/.mozilla/plugins
ln -s /some/folder/or/other/j2re*/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so
