Java in Mozilla Firebird and Mozilla

I have read all the posts about java but ..Hi all
I am just not able to do this.
What i am doing, going to usr/lib
Now here I find three mozillas,- mozilla, mozilla 1.4, mozilla firebird.
I understand Mozilla 1.4 and mozilla firebird as two programs. So where is mozilla coming from. As I checked that my version of mozilla is version 1.4-the one which I launch.
Anyway I go to the /usr/lib/mozilla..../plugins for all of them
I make a symlink like this
ln -s /usr/local/j2re1.4.1_06/plugin/i386/ns610/
Now this is not working?
There is no other plugin in my plugin directory.
Secondly, do I need any configuraton from helper application in mozilla to make java work?

You might need to link to the gcc32 plugin instead. Try making your link in /usr/lib/mozilla1.4 to /usr/local/j2re1.4.1_06/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/
Hope this helps!
