Smile is there a file to configure PS1 and PS2 permanently?


Hi there. I'm new here. Need to know wer would the file to configure the above on a RH9 box. Thanks ya...

Mine's done in ~/.bash_profile but it may be elsewhere in RH. ~/.bashrc, ~/.bash_profile, and so on, or like stuff in /etc are the usual suspects.

thanks digiot...i tried the file u've told me..it works fine...but i found out when i commented the PS1 in .bashrc...the prompt will return to the default value....by any chance u know wer the default value of the PS1 and PS2 is kept?

thanks again ya...

Well, I don't think there is a default, exactly. It varies for login shells vs. non-login. I think that's what you're talking about. You may need to add it to ~/.bash_profile, too.
