ipod mini setup-Kubuntu,gtkpod

First: I am a total newbie-please explain everything as if i was a preschooler-in essence thats what I am.

I just received an ipod mini this past week. I am running Kubuntu(not sure what version) and have downloaded gtkpod. I can import all my songs to gtkpod but can't sync it with the ipod. I get the message "iPod directory structure must be present before synching to the iPod can be performed."
I don't know what that means or what to do.

Can anyone help?

well, the good news is there only is one version of kubuntu so far, so you're running hoary hedgehog, which has some version number associated with it....

anyway, it sounds like the ipod might not be mounted

might help

make sure its mounted, check the output of the 'mount' command

thank you-you were right it wasnt mounted and when it did mount gtkpod had to be pointed to the correct position (sdb2). A directory also had to be set up with a window or mac machine before it would work.
with some help from the link above and some other suggestions the mini is now working
