Smile internet connection with usb


hi
im vanitha. im using Redhat enterprise linux,el-3 Im unable to connect to internet using airtel broadband,but the same is working in windows xp,The modem which i used is beetel usb modem. Please help me .

clearly not a member introduction, also very very little useful information (also no please or thankyou!) moved to Linux - Newbie.

hi,

Beetel make a number of modems. Which model do you have? Have you done a search for the model number + Linux? It's very likely that someone else has already found out how to set it up and put up instructions, if drivers to use it exist.

From googling, looks like it has the Globespan Virata chipset.

This page would be a good point to start.

Try and get a router modem, a lot less hassle when hardware vendors refuse to support linux.

Thanks plenty!!
Just shifted to red hat 9 (found an old CD under my bed!) and was starting to get reeeeeally annoyed with my ISP for setting me up with a crappy modem that makes my machine crash (a whole other story) and doesn't have linux drivers. i was just about to give up when i found this!! boon! o, sweet nectar!
