intel 536EP and linux distributions

Hi i am new to Red Hat ....... the first thing i wanted to do was install modem.....
now here is whta i did..........
Downloaded the driver from intel site
extracted the tgz file
went into extracted folder through terminal
typed :make clean
typed :make 536
typed :make install

(i do it all as root)
the readme file says that /dev/modem is now the interface to the modem....
So i go to internet configuration wizard and change modem to /dev/modem
change the flow control to none.

now i try to dial after entring username, pass,no. there is a dialtone for 1 or 2 sec..... and then disconnected.....it keeps doing in .....like while(1) lols
P.S: my internet works on windows

Secondly i here ppl talking about kpppd and minicom etc. as dial programs .....i havn't found them? what should i do.

now i am really getting upset.......plz help me
also tell me which are the best linux distributions in terms of hardwaresupport...... so i can switch onto themmmm

Problem 2) i am using Nvidia GeForce 5200 but is not being detected ... what should i do........????

UPDATE

the modem dials the voice of dialing is the same as that in windows which makes me sure
that modem is detected..... so this means problem is with my dialing...

I am using Internet Configuration Wizard to enter username, pass,no. and ISP name what am i missing or doing wrong to get it right.....

(I have assumed that modem is working fine on the basis of sound and beep from modem
if there is still a possibility of that being wrong plz tell me )

You are very impatient, and some people may argue that you have
posted too many times in a short time to the same thread.
I have done the same in the past (but you can also use the edit button)

I suggest you look at http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/

and use wvdial to find out / investigate what is wrong with the dialing (or whatever)

Your thread title could be improved next time by being more specific
