Thumbs up Installing clam Antivirus


Hello everybody,
I have migrated to ubuntu from vista only yesterday!Thank God ,i got rid of windows after 15 years of fatigue!I have downloaded Clam Anti-virus and being totally new to linux am finding it difficult to figure things out,like installing the software.Kindly help.Thanks in advance.(quite frankly where's the DESKTOP?)

To install ClamAV on Ubuntu all you gotta do is execute this command:

sudo apt-get install clamav
Or, alternatively, you could go into Synaptic (the package manager GUI), check the box for ClamAV, and hit Apply.

Either of these methods will download and install ClamAV for you.

Also, just as a note, anti virus is not really a necessity with Linux (in my opinion anyway, I have never used AV on Mac OS X or Linux). Really what clam helps with is to ensure that any 'infected' files you get won't get inadvertently transferred to a windows pc. EG you download a video that has a virus hidden in it in Linux and it is funny, so you decide to send it to your friend who uses Windows. The virus won't infect you, but you don't want to send it to your friend with Windows because it will infect them.
