Seems to me, in my limited experience with beryl, that you can have four desktops, but only one wallpaper for all four. It's supposedly in the works to have that corrected in the next release.

You haven't indicated what distro you are using, but on my F7 box, I restored my four "Workspace Switcher" icons after insalling Beryl using the "Add to Panel" option.
The new ubuntu sorry about that.I can see the icons on the bottom I just can't switch back and forth between them.
I fixed it for some reason it went back to default.
