install linux on connectix virtual pc? Can this be done? Tried Debian and it install fine until startx and all I get is a black screen. Mandrake just stalls in the middle of the install
Yes you can install RH on a Virtual PC. You may run into problems when you finish the install - the screen will go to a large resolution and very distorted. Search this site for help with Virtual C and you will find several articles on it. But for a starter when you get to this point, hit SHIFT+F1 then SHIFT+F7 this will change the log in to a text format then back to a gui.. the GUI will be a little distorted but you can complete the install this way. Finally you will need to do some maintenance to teh display file after the install is done.
Finally got Mandrake installed but no GUI. I was really hoping this would be a way to test drive some of the other distros, since partitioning and installing the right way is not an option at this time.
I have Red Hat 9, Fedora, Debian Stable, Mandrake 9.2, and SuSE 8.2 all installed in VPC. Frequently, I need to edit XF86Config file to bring it down to 16-bit, but aside from that I've had no problems with these distros. I can't get Slackware or Vector to install, though.
I've edited the xf86config file until I'm blue and still no go. I can run Knoppix from the cd on this virtual drive except that it does not fit...have to pan up and down/side to side to see all. I even tried the settings that were displayed when Knoppix loaded. I can 'see' and explore the Mandrake drives/partitions from Knoppix. Is there something I can change/edit from Knoppix? (i've used Knoppix to fix broken winxp by swapping parts from another drive).
This Connectix is a trial copy for a few more days so it needs to be dumped, puchased or cracked. The other virual drive programs out there want money up front to try them out and let's face it I'm too cheap to do that...that's one thing I like about Linux is a free test drive then buy or contribute if I keep it.

I can get about to where the second disc ejects under MS VPC.Can anyone get further?
I need VPC to run Drake 10 so that I can copy the system libs for Qemu to rune WINEX(cedega) properly.(I need /lib and /usr/lib of the x86 build.)
(Under QEMU for PPC these are out of date, including the main gnu c lib .o file.I can run both qemu and cedega(WINEX) when these are updated or if someone has access to a PC running Mandrake 10.I don't have that luxury.)
