Eth0 problem on Connectix Virtual PC
Hello All!
I am a new user to this thing called Linux. I decided to play it safe and install RedHat Linux (Version 9 I think) but I installed it through Connectix Virtual PC.
Everything installed nicely except that now I have no sound and can't connect to the net. I noticed that during the Linux boot the 'interface eth0' was failing, but i finally got it to say 'ok' after configuring my Virtual PC network settings. This did not solve the problem of connecting to the net, so after snooping around on this site I found a couple of threads that prompted me to check the settings on /sbin/ifconfig.
After doing that I noticed that none of the things they were talking about were showing up so I typed what they did :
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 up (I was in root)
Then I rechecked /sbin/ifconfig
This is what came up:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:03:FF:01:2B:1C
inet addr:192.168.131.65 Bcast:192.168.131.255

Tx packets:1 errors:1 dropped:0 overruns:0

Rx bytes:362 (362.0 b) Tx bytes:342 (342.0 b)
Interrupt:11 Base address:0x8000
lo
Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
Rx packets:1045 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:71474 (69.7 Kb) TX bytes: 71474 (69.7 Kb)
After doing all that and rebooting, I still cannot connect. Can anyone help me? Does it have to do with the Virtual PC settings still? or is it the Linux settings?
Also, my host computer is running an SB AUdigy Z sound card. Does that mean that I have to update the modules on the emulated sound card on Linux?
This is so confusing but I wanna learn!!!
Thanks in advance for any help.
