Install Fedora 14 directly on USB thumb drive

Hi all,

I was wondering if it was possible to install Fedora 14 directly to a USB thumb drive. I want to use an 8gb thumb drive as a hard drive with Fedora 14 on it. The "Live USB" feature is nice but it doesn't keep kernel updates. Also, I find that the Fedora USB install as well and the Pendrive Installer waste a lot of space on the thumb drive by allocating too much to /tmp and other directories.

When I attempt to install directly on the USB, I receive the message "Could not allocate requested partitions: not enough space for LVM requests." Any solutions?

I know it's possible to install Linux to a CF card and have it boot like a hard drive. My company at work does this for their customers. Can I do the same thing for a USB drive?

Thank you in advance!!

See:

If the above confuses you, search on "prepare usb stick linux" or similar

I recommend
http://spins.fedoraproject.org/lxde/#downloads

And, if you do not use the dd command, try
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

There are other methods like using the commands fdisk or cfdisk
(see CrunchBang forum how2's and/or the manual for aptosid)

Best wishes!
