Just thought I would post on this but bear in mind I am not an expert. I was told by friends at work if you ever install Linux and Windows on the same machine, to always install Windows first due to the possibility of Microsoft um... accidentally... um messing up Grub or Lilo or whatever it is so you can only boot Windows.
I am witholding any accusations towards Microsoft on this one.

Well, you can install Linux first but the problem is that Windows will overwrite the MBR everytime you install it.
So by installing Windows first, then Linux, you allow Linux to install the boot loader and its just less painful in the long run.
I suggested linux first cuz the guy didn't mention he had any commerical point-n-click partitioning tool. Ergo, Disk Druid kicks XP's fdisk's butt hands down.
Oh yeah, I'm fully aware of the possibility or certainty that XP will mess up MBR. I didn't say to install lilo on /dev/hda1. Read my post, man.
Alright since nobody read my post. Install XP, partition with the world's most primitive tool in DOS mode, leave space at the end of Linux. Install Linux. After, you will come back telling me DD rules.
the MBR should probably be on a floppy as well, and not on the master block. if you use lilo, then xp can't really do anything about it, as long as you boot a floppy with it. it really doesn't matter which one you install first just as long are you make two partitions; one for xp the other for linux.
