Import Outlook PST into Evolution , Gmail POP3 setup

1)I was able to receive emails in IMAP setup, but I changed to POP3 and do not longer get new emails, but I can only send.

2) trying to import my Outlook PST into Evolution, but no go. It imported the contacts ok, but the emails, about 103,000 of them don't come in...

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Alex

alex4buba,

One suggestion is to use Thunderbird as an intermediary:
https://superuser.com/questions/5636...ion-mail-files

• Start up Outlook so that you can use it's DLL access to the data.

• Start up Thunderbird and use the File|Import wizard to import mail from Outlook. This creates a bunch of mbox formated files inside a directory structure that matches the Outlook folder structure from which they came.

• Exit Outlook and Thunderbird.

• Copy the new mail files and directories from the Thunderbird profile Mail directory into the Evolution profile Mail directory. In my case, this meant copying to a whole new machine. I put them under the local mail directory.

• Start up Evolution. If all went well, Evo should notice the files and directories and show them as mail folders in the "On This Computer" folder.

Yes, I tried that already.

TB started and crashed without any error message

Any other suggestion?

Thanks again
Alex

I "think" pop3 has to be enabled in gmail and is not by default but I could be wrong. I haven't used gmail in a very long time.

Pop is enabled, this is how I use it in Outlook for many years.

alex4buba,

Have a look at the advice here:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_.pst_files

Xena can convert .pst files to XML:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xena/

There is also Outport:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/outport/

My notes on gmail set up for email client.

Code:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server: imap.gmail.com
Requires SSL: Yes
Port: 993

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.gmail.com
Use Authentication: Yes
Port for SSL:: 465 or 587
Use same settings as incoming mail server
Full Name or Display Name: your name
Account Name or User Name: your full email address including @gmail.com
Email Address: your full email address including @gmail.com
Password: your Gmail password

SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Require SSL/STARTTLS: Yes
Require SMTP authentication: Yes
User name: your Gmail account name
Password: your Gmail password
With 2-step authentication set up: an app password for Gmail

POP
Incoming Mail (POP) Server: pop.gmail.com
Requires SSL: Yes
Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.gmail.com
Requires SSL: Yes
Requires TLS: Yes (if available)
Requires Authentication: Yes
Port for SSL: 465
Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587
Server timeouts Greater than 1 minute, we recommend 5
Full Name or Display Name: your name
Account Name or User Name: your full email address including @gmail.com
Email Address: your full email address including @gmail.com
Password: your Gmail password

Make sure This server requires a secure connection (SSL) is checked under both Outgoing mail (SMTP):

If the number under Incoming server (POP3): has not been changed to "995" automatically, enter "995" there.

Hello Beachboy
I tried the link : http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_.pst_files
It seems the relevant links in the article for Linux are not working

Thanks

alex4buba,

Wouldn't this have been much better done using the original Windows OS to migrate Outlook to Thunderbird, which is cross-platform and supports both IMAP and POP3?

https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/2138...omewhere-else/

EDIT
I see that you have now solved your problem on a separate thread:

Yes, I did. I am new and didn't realize I created 2 threads.

I tried at first to go with Thunderbird in my Windows PC, it was starting and crashing immediatly - maybe, it couldn't handle 104K records file size of 6.7 GB

Anyway, thanks again
