@dmchess. The only problem with your link is that the info is obsolete.

@OP. There's no Ubuntu Software Center in 20.04 anymore. Instead, 20.04 uses GNOME Software Center. So the correct command is:
Code:
sudo apt install gnome-software

Tried dmchess's suggestion and it didn't work. Tried shruggy's and it worked. Thank both of you for your help.I have been fighting with ubuntu 20.04 for a few weeks now. 18.04 was so user friendly but to me 20.04 is a mess I guess because I am just a casual user I use it mostly to search the web, do my banking and taxes, FB and email among other things but to tell the truth I am seriously considering going back to 18.04. I have no kind of computer training and what I know I learned either on my own or from the help I have gotten here over the years.

You just should have waited a bit longer before upgrading from 18.04 to 20.04. From the 20.04 release announcement:
Quote:
Users of Ubuntu 19.10 will be offered an automatic upgrade to 20.04 LTS via Update Manager shortly. Users of 18.04 LTS will be offered the automatic upgrade when 20.04.1 LTS is released, which is scheduled for July 23rd.
I'm pretty sure the automatic upgrade offered via Update Manager will take care of e.g. replacing Ubuntu Software Center with GNOME Software Center.

BTW, please mark the thread SOLVED if you think it is.

I discovered a different way to access the software center. I went to the top left of the screen where it says activities and clicked on the bar next to it then typed in software and there it was. The icon looks different but it is what I was looking for so I added it to the favorites.
