I am failing to install ubuntu 10.04 desktop on ASUS notebook M5200N

Hello everyone:

I got a second hand notebook from my manager, which is in good shape, for free. It is an ASUS notebook M5200N, Pentium M 1600 MHz - 504 MB RAM and almost 35 GB HD.
I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Desktop on it.
I start the installation, see the ubuntu logo but after a few minutes it gets stuck with a blank page and doesn't continue. I have repeated the process several times so far but always get the same result.

Currently I have installed latest Debian desktop version on it, but I would like to install ubuntu 10.04.
Since I need it for my school Lab work. I am using a VirtualBox at school to do Lab work of ubuntu in class, but I'd like to install it on my notebook, so I can take my notebook there instead.

I appreciate some help figuring out why I can't install ubuntu on it. I already read all the similar posts about notebooks and ubuntu on this forum, didn't help me.

Regards,

Mansour

Good Afternoon Andrew:

Thank you very much for your reply to my post. I am sorry that I couldn't reply back sooner. I got wrapped in work and school and a bad case of seasonal cold symptoms at the same time.
I followed your advice. I was able to download and install the ubuntu 10.10.1 notebook edition on my notebook successfully.

I am downloading the iso image for 10.04.1 notebook edition, via bit-torrent site. I will let you know how it truns out.

Best regards,

mansour
