i am able to see my win98 hda from my mandrake hdb, and i don't remember how!?

hum... i know i've installed something, but i forgot what it was.

now i'm able to see my window partition, which is pretty cool...
i can browse it from /mnt/win.c , pretty much that's like C:/ in that hardisk.

i always thought in order to talk to windoze, i need to have SAMBA, but guess not, since i don't have SAMBA installed.

anyone knows what software out there allow me to see my win partition from my linux? i'd like to write that down for future reference, thanks

don't need any spesific s/w to acces your win partition if it lives on a same machine.
you just have to mount it to specified directory, also edit your /etc/fstab for your convenience
your /etc/fstab will sound like this

.....
/dev/hda2 /mnt/transport vfat defaults 0 0
^ ^ ^ ^
| | | |
disk/partition place to mount type blah ... blah ....

there should be a better manual out there.
remember to make sure your kernel supports ntfs if you try to mount a ntfs win partition

if you're using mandrake, isn't that just the supermount thingy-ma-bob?

the problem is i've been install / uninstall my mandrake many times (still trying to figure out how to install mplayer with the correct libraries) and from all my previous install, i swear i "did not" see windoze partition at all.

i have 2 hd, first has win98, and second has mandrake. i guess i need to figure out how to use that supermount or edit fstab in order for me to see window partition. i think its pretty cool that i can share files between this 2 hd

what version of mdk you are using?
i have installed mdk 9.1 before and everthing is there in /mnt folder
can you check ?

The default Mdk 9.1 install asks you if you want to make a permanent mount point to your windows partition, and what you want the mount point to be called.

try this

mkdir /tmp/test
mount /dev/hd** /tmp/test

jus make sure u type replace the ** with your win partition and post the errors if such exist
