If it is a windows .exe file then you need something like wine to run it

If it is a source file you will have to use the following commands in sequence in the extracted folder.
Code:
./configure //to configure the script for your particular system
make //to build the application
makeinstall // to install
To know if the extracted files are source files, check for 'configure' and 'makefile' file names in the extracted folder.

If the program runs from the folder itself, check for a file with the name 'crossfire' or 'cf' or any other name which you suspect to be executable file. Running the command 'ls -l' will list whether the file is executable or not (check the first column -wrx -- here x represents executable). If you find such a file, run the following command on a terminal window in the folder containing the file.
Code:
./crossfire //Or the file you suspect will play the application

depends on the distro you use, if you would post your distro in your profile it would be easier to help you

Wine should already be installed, if I'm not mistaken, type wine at the commmand line and see what it says, if it says anything other then command not found then it is installed
