i installed FC5 and it had totem installed by default. it is there but its good for nothing because when ever i plays a video or audio it displays an error message saying plugin not intalled. i have visited the totem home site and checked if all the necesities r installed, which r installed but still it dont work.
help me out in this
i did try it. i have Xine installed and working. but when i issued rpm --import command i returnd error .
and by the way if i dont want to indulge in yums. how to do it by source or simple rpm files.
It helps if you post the error messages you are getting. YUM is just a frontend for rpm which adds some extra features. If you want the source packages, then you have to get them from the xine website.
The link on Xine website leads me to Totems default page in which there is no mentioning of totem front end. All it says is that download Gstreamer or Xine ,libdvdcss, Gromit and Gnome. it doesnt say anything about totem itself. i have totem installed and i want to get it running. is there a way that i download some rpm packages and get it up and running (without Yums ofcourse).
And one thing more plz. as i installed Xine player from a rpm package who can i get the GUI from source file, available on xine site, to work with it.
What do you mean by "without yums" ? As I mentioned, yum is just a package management tool for rpms. One reason why you could be having problems with totem is that, it could have be the version using gstreamer instead of xine. It may help if you install the gstreamer plugins from livna. It would be obviously easier if you setup the livna yum repo and use yum to install the packages you wish. If you do not want to do that, then you can download the packages and install them manually. If you want to use xine, then you may have to compile totem from source with the --enable-xine configuration option.
thank you fellow. i installed gstreamer instead of installing totem from source with --enable-xine switch. it was easy. i downloaded few rpm and walaah! it was all done.
i dont do installations by yum coz it takes control away from u.
thanx any way. thanx alot
