What desktop are you using: KDE, Gnome or something else?

The answer depends on which desktop.

I was facing the same problem with mozilla on GNOME. Whenever i login the browser pops up. Someone asked me to edit the file etc/X11/Xsession.d/45xession which asks the particular program to execute during login. I edited the file n now it's working fine.
