How to build a bootable barebones Linux installation

https://github.com/boardstretcher/barebones-linux

Have fun. Hopefully this helps some beginners become more interested in the way that Linux comes together with other community tools.

Indeed, nice tutorial. Just a minor thing to think about, I usually do it in reverse, I first set up the root file system and then compile the kernel, just because this way I can skip initrd creation and let the kernel incorporate the rootfs, which results in a kernel that is actually a complete OS.

That not-a-script is surprisingly simple and easy to follow, I like it!

Well I must say, after having followed the (C)LFS process innumerous times, I never knew you could have such a minimal install

I will have to play with this some more.

Ok ... so some playing in (trying Toybox instead to see what its like ) and found a typo in the grub section.

Quote:
Configure grub further

cat << EOF > $BLD/boot/grub/grub.cfg
The issue is we are copying this to BLD when I believe it should be to /barebones/flashdrive, seeing as we just installed grub here
