How do I mount a CD?

I've installed Kubuntu 5.10 as a guest within VM Workstation. I have to next do the following:

"As root (su -), mount the VMware Tools virtual CD-ROM image, change to a working directory (for example, /tmp), uncompress the installer, then unmount the CD-ROM image"

How do I mount a CD once I'm in root? Then how do I untar a tar.gz file?

Here's a photo of my desktop:

Thanks.

Basically, you need to mount the cd using "mount /media/cdrom", then copy the installer off the CD, unmount the cd using "umount /media/cdrom".

To untar a .tar.gz file, use the command "tar -xzvf fileName.tar.gz".

Since you are using Kubuntu, the root account is disabled by default, so you need to use sudo. Simply add "sudo" before each of the above commands to execute them with root priveleges. The first time, you will be prompted for your users password.

Post back here if you need anything else.

I hope this helps
