NFS mount of smb mount of windows share: permission denied problem :(

i am trying to mount a windows shared folder in tru64 OSF V5.1 unix, and i wasnt very successful doing it directly from windows box to unix box. samba gives only ftp-like command line client, and nfs option wasnt successul either (i have windows SFU running NFS server on windows box).
so i smb mounted windows shared folder on another linux box running FC1 and now trying to NFS mount this in tru64 unix box.
smb mount in FC1 box is successful, and when i try to mount it in tru64 unix with:
mount FC1box:/mnt/DATA /DATA
it says:
cant's access FC1box:/mnt/DATA: permission denied.
i do have /mnt/DATA in /etc/exportfs, and nfs generally works since i was able to mount /home in tru64 unix box successfully.
is it because i am mounting a mounted file system?
or what should i do to fix this permission issues?

as NFS is a fully secure and compliant UNIX file system protocol, it will explicitly refuse to share non-unix filesystems within it. as such you won't be able to sub-share a local windows drive or smb/cifs share though NFS. It might be annoying, but there's always a better way to do it...

May I be so bold as to ask what this better way is?

Well, I had the same problem, and this thread is ranked high on google results. Searching the forum before posting new threads is much more effective if solutions are posted with the problem. Why now: because this is still the case four years later.

Solution: The most direct way is to work around it in most cases, and mount the cifs share separately on the other machines instead of submounting it on an nfs share.
