Like the topic says im using Suse 7.2 dist. and i tried to use a library for a mod of Halflife game server.
It doesnt work cause im getting this error:
/lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by /lib/libstdc++.so.5)
I tried to upgrade glibc rpm which contains libc.so.6(glibc_2.3) but then nothing works anymore. This rpm wasnt marked for my dist.
So i tried to get another libc.so.6 which i found in google as raw files. Everytime i tried one on my box it wont boot then.
I guess i did everything wrong, how to get run it?
You cannot upgrade glibc unless you *really* know what you are doing. That error means you need to recompile the program for your distro. If you don't have the sources, ask the person who did compile it to compile using older libC symbol versions. If they don't know how, or don't understand what you're asking them to do, tell them to talk to TD on freenode, he can be found in the #autopackage channel.
If you're glibc package is broke, you probably need to reinstall the OS, or boot up in "rescue mode" and force the install of the original glibc package.
Glibc 2.3 is included with SuSE linux 8.2.
You should upgrade your distro to run the game.
You can backup your data and configuration using e.g. SuSE linux live-eval CD 8.2.
Upgrade using SuSE linux CD/DVD or FTP install or apt-get.
.... or you can upgrade your distro yes, a bit extreme but there we go. Of course if you tried to upgrade glibc manually that might not be so automatic anymore.
