Firewall

Hi guys

I am using slackware 11.......what i want to know is how do i open a port on my firewall. im really just trying to do this for testing purposes. I was told that slackware does not have a default firewall installed, but when i do a nmap scan of my ports only a few is accepting connections i want to know how to open a port like say 15000 or something just for test purposes. Is this done in iptables or something.

Opening ports is done by services -- programs that bind to them e.g. listening. You can change your browser default port (80) to anything you like (in firefox -> tools -> options -> advanced -> network -> settings). is that what you want?

Your (not running ) firewall may or may not block the port, depending what you told it to do...

You could see if you have iptables installed (the defacto firewall in Linux kernels 2.4 and up (or is it 2.6??)).

As root:

Code:
iptables -L
if it cant find iptables try
Code:
find / -name "iptables"
To try and find the binary for it.

if it is installed you could create rules for incoming on that port. Google for iptables resources, it's not a 2 second job.
